Vegetarian Carnival #14: yummy winter recipes and more

Veg Carnival Logo copyWelcome to the March 2008 edition of the vegetarian carnival. Since it was so much fun last time, I decided to start this edition with my top 5 favorite entries again:

  • VnV presents A Vegetarian in Egypt posted at Veggie Monologues. I am a sucker for vegetarian travel stories. Sounds like they did pretty well in Egypt!
  • squawkfox presents Ten Reasons Soaking Dried Beans Can Change Your Life posted at squawkfox, saying, “Stop buying caged canned beans. Here’s ten reasons buying dried beans can change your life!” I tend to get lazy and go for the canned beans, but thanks to these reminders, I’m going to try to use dried beans more often.
  • monica presents Easy Tempeh Sloppy Joes posted at SmarterFitter Blog, saying, “Lots of people, veggies and meat eaters alike, don’t “get” tempeh. So here’s a little introduction and an easy recipe to get people going.” I’ve been wanting to cover the topic of tempeh for a while now, but they don’t seem to sell it here. So go read this intro to it instead!
  • OK, this bullet actually includes two entries, all about bananas. Woman Tribune presents Natural Mango Banana Soup posted at Woman Tribune, saying, “Recipe for mango banana soup, an all-natural soup that will lift your spirits.” And Expat Chef presents Yes, We Have Bananas posted at The Expatriate’s Kitchen, saying, “A vegetarian-friendly and vegan-friendly duo of banana recipes.”
  • Kate Saltfleet presents Why and how I became vegetarian posted at Experiments in Living. I enjoy reading about how others come to the decision to go vegetarian, and Kate’s is particularly well-written.

Congrats, top 5! (OK, technically this is a top 6.) But don’t stop reading yet - there were plenty of other fabulous entries this month, as well:

See, I told you there were a lot of great posts. Want to play along? Submit your blog article to the next edition of the vegetarian carnival using our carnival submission form. The next deadline is March 31st, with the carnival on April 2nd.

And as always, contact me if you’re interested in hosting a future edition at your blog.

Hey Jul, thanks for including my tempeh in your top 5! And thanks for all the other great links. Love the post on bean soaking; I’ve got a batch of black-eyed peas on the soak as I type. I hope you can find tempeh in Germany soon. But I sympathize… it’s difficult to find in London, as well. As is seitan! Grrr….
