Vegetarian turkey

Despite the fact that I’ve heard rumors that it tastes awful, and despite the fact that it is sure to bring me nothing but ridicule at the Thanksgiving table, I decided on a whim to pick up a frozen Tofurky yesterday. What can I say? I get a little over-excited every time I come back to the US and hit a grocery store. So many vegetarian products that I never see in Europe! Plus it’s my first Thanksgiving in the US for many years, so I figured why not give it a try (even though I’m feeling a little like a vegetarian stereotype right now).

I also got some Tofurky-brand vegan gravy, which I’m hoping will taste better than the vegetable-bullion-based gravy I usually slap together. I’ll be sure to let you know how it turns out.

  1. I make a Tofurky for the December holidays in the US each year. While the meat eaters were not so impressed with it (particularly based on the overall look of it), they absolutely love the Tofurky brand gravy so much that it is eaten instead of its meat based counterpart. Will be interested to hear your review.

A friend said she buys a veggie turkey roll (I don’t know which brand) for her daughter each year. Everyone else eats the traditional turkey but her daughter enjoys this. It’s the first I’d heard of these. I’ll have to try it, but will have to get something else for my family.

Good heavens didn’t even know such things existed. Certainly can’t buy a tofu turkey here in Australia. I’m really intrigued to hear how it tastes, although still seems like a highly dodgy concept to me.

I don’t think a vegetarian who buys a tofurkey should feel any more like a stereotype than a meateater who buys a turkey.

I wish I would have had someone make some vegan dishes for my families thanksgiving dinner last week. Instead I waited to eat until I got home. LOL!!!!

Just out of curiosity….Do you know where I can get quality organic/vegan ingredients online? I am now trying to order from online stores only because of various reasons…….can you help me with any suggestions??????

There is only one place, out of all that I have tried that really stood out for true quailty, and that is Celebrityfoodds.

If you can help me grow my list of quality services or stores, where I can buy my food, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you!

Where can you buy this tofurkey from?

  9. Michelle says:

Jasever Mann, I bought mine at Trader Joes, here in California. I’ve also seen it at the local health food stores and I live in a small town. Did you look at the tofurky website to see if they are carried somewhere near you?

It tastes pretty good – especially the gravy, as Jul mentions.
