Vitamin B may help relieve pain of peripheral neuropathy

October 22, 2008 by Marijke Durning, RN

Peripheral neuropathy is a painful disorder of the nerves, mostly in the hands and feet. The most commonly known neuropathy is caused by diabetes, but it can also have other causes such as injuries (traumas), infections, or even chemotherapy. The pain is often described as tingling and burning; it can be constant or it can come and go.

It hasn’t been proven, but there are claims that high doses of vitamin B may help relieve the pain of peripheral neuropathy. Studies are going on right now to see if this is true.

I have neuropathy in my leg that is not helped by medication. I have not heard about using vitamin B to help, and this is interesting.
