Waiting & Observation

This afternoon I spent a long time waiting at the Perth International Airport. My sister-in-law has been away in Malaysia & Cambodia. As I waited I was able to enjoy one of my other favourite pastimes; people watching. The international airport is actually a great place to watch people. There’s the expectant faces, the eagerness & impatience, the joy on seeing each other, the response, how long they linger, departure, and many other things to observe.

I had both hubby and my little boy with me this time, so I didn’t actually write in my journal. I took mental notes instead. I love to note such details in my journal. Most often entries where I have simply observed my surroundings are the most interesting to reread. There’s something about waiting, though, that makes you more observant than usual. Next time you’re stuck somewhere waiting just take a look around and write what you observe.

    Heather,

I agree that seeing people greet each other can be interesting and enjoyable, but as you probably know there are plenty of other extremely boring places in an airport.

I don’t know if you’d notice much difference if you studied a bunch of people lined up for check in, for example :)

  2. Hi Mike,
Yes, watching the arrivals and departures is a lot of fun, but I think people are still interesting, even waiting in a line. I’ve been watching people for a long time. Even when they’re bored they’re interesting. Thanks for your comment. ;-)
