Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. is one of the largest companies in the US and despite being one of the largest, they are still concerned about the environment. And as to help out, they have just announced their plans of having their whole operations powered by energy from the sun and from other renewable sources of power.

At present, they have just recently acquired solar power from providers like PowerLight, BP Solar, as well as SunEdison LLC. The energy would be used in 22 different stores of the company.

Kim Saylors-Laster is the VP for energy for Wal-Mart and Saylors-Laster affirms, “We are taking aggressive steps towards our goal of being supplied by 100 percent renewable energy. The pilot project is yet another example of Wal-Mart’s commitment to making decisions that are good for business and the environment.”

Rod Judkoff who is one of the directors for the US Department of Energy is happy to learn about Wal-Mart’s plans. Judkoff shares, “We applaud Wal-Mart’s drive to increase its use of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and look forward to the long-term positive impact their efforts will have on our environment.”
