If you’re a smoker and you have rheumatoid arthritis (RA), quitting will not only help your lungs, you’ll likely see an improvement in your arthritis pain.
Researchers looked at a group of almost 1500 people who smoked and who had RA. The researchers wanted to see the effect of smoking and on the symptoms of RA. Although they aren’t sure why or what the connection is, the 21.1% of the patients who stopped smoking reported less pain and swelling in their RA-affected joints.
