Vegetarian diet is a very effective way to lose weight, says a review, published in April’s Nutrition Reviews. The review used data from 87 previous studies. The study found that

  • The body weight of vegetarians is 3 to 20 percent lesser than that of the meat eaters on an average.
  • Vegetarians are less prone to obesity related diseases like diabetes.
  • People who quit eating meat gained less weight over a period of five years.
  • The rate of obesity among vegans is between 0 to 6 percent, while it is significantly more in the general population.
