Ways to Keep Your Car Organized

I love an organized car. It drives me crazy if I get in and there is trash leftover from a quick run to McDonalds or towels from a trip to the pool.
There are some simple things you can buy for your car to get it organized and also a few things you can do to keep it that way.
The first item is a Car Caddy. As you can see it keeps all you car items in one convenient spot.
Here’s a description from Amazon:
This front seat caddy with insulated cup holder is large enough for most beverage containers. Side mesh pockets allow for easy access to cell phone or other frequently used items. Roomy zippered pocket for storing maps and important papers. Slip pockets and elastic loops perfect for storing tire gauge and pens. Hook and cord lock mounting system allows bag to be easily attached around the bottom of the passenger’s seat – front or back.”
There are things you need or want to keep in your car and this little caddy keeps it from getting scattered everywhere.
Another item that is great, especially if you have kids as cargo, is this Back Seat Organizer. We use this for road trips, but it is also great for everyday use. If you spend quite a bit of time in the car, keeping a stash of items to keep the kids busy is a good idea.
We do have a DVD player in our car, but that can get old fast. Besides, I like my kids to be creative or read a book every once in awhile too.
My husband has one of these in his car. One of his businesses requires alot of running around. He keeps pens, paper, brochures, business cards, etc. in there. That way everything he needs is easy to get to.
Having a Waste Bag in the car really cuts down on the amount of trash that gets left everywhere.
My kids love to leave little surprises for me in the cup holder. You know: candy and gum wrappers, paper, soda cans, water bottles, etc.
Each of them is now responsible for their own trash and they can’t complain because the bag is right there in the car.
Some basic tips for keeping your car clutter free are to make each person responsible for bringing their stuff in the house from the car.
Our kids have tried the old trick, “But I can’t carry it all”. That’s when we say, ” I just had a great idea…make 2 trips!” Once they knew that they had to carry everything back in, they stopped bringing so much stuff with them.
Also, give your car a once over each week. Pick a day of the week that is clean the car out day. I like to start the week off with a clean car, so we do this on Sundays.
By putting a few organizing items in your car and following these tips, you can have a car to be proud of.

Well, sad to say, but you would faint dead away if you saw my car. This is a very good post and I like organization, but you forgot the tip about how you shouldn’t marry (or partner up with) a home builder. I did.
In our car right now there are cement buckets, a ladder, rulers that are almost as long as the car, nails, assorted tools, paint, enough wood to build a treehouse, and more clay dust than is likely safe. Yes, it’s a deathtrap. Worse it’s way unorganized. It makes me crazy. I want Ben to get a truck so I can dump his stuff and buy all the cool tools here and get organized. One day!
This car caddy is great! I hate when my all my stuff slides all around the car and underneath the seats. Now my cell phone is secured within easy reach! Def getting one of these!
@Jennifer – My dad was a builder, so I remember all those tools in the truck so well. Luckily though he had his truck and my mom had her car.
Too bad you can’t add a “Make a Donation to Buy Jennifer a Car” to your blog. Ben, Ben, Ben….
@Erika – Hi there! I just got the nicest email from an intern of yours.
I love that caddy too! I tend to brake a little fast sometimes,so if I didn’t have all my belongings contained, I am sure my cell phone would go flying through the windshield!
