We have our first Wasabi Winner
The winner of last week’s Wasabi for Winners competition has been decided. All of the entries were put through a rigorous judging process ( me reading and re-reading the comments over and over trying to pick a favourite) and it ended with a very difficult decision.
For this first competition, Kate has walked away with the wonderful wasabi for her comment about her favourite Christmas food:
“I am a Canadian living in Germany with my Bulgarian husband. Our family has adopted the Bulgarian tradition of having feast of seven vegetarian dishes on Christmas Eve.
At the centre of the meal is “Bop” or dried white bean soup. It’s a funny choice for a Christmas Eve feast as it is the staple food for many rural Bulgarians, but that is the point. It is humble and filling and sustains one through the long winter months until spring and green return.
It is a metaphor for all that we believe Christmas represents.”
The reason why she won over the other quality entries was that I simply had no idea about Bulgarian traditions and I am fascinated by these sort of customs. I hope one day to try some “Bop” but I imagine it is a little more involved than Kate suggested.
Thanks Kate, I’ve emailed you asking for postage details.
For all of the disappointed multitudes out there, I had so much fun with last week’s competition that I’ve sprouted another one for this week. I can’t guarantee that this will be a regular event, but tune in tomorrow for a little mystery.

Thank you! I love wasabi and I am thrilled to have won when at the entries were so interesting.
