Weekday lunch with friends
We’ve already talked about how hard it can be to go out anywhere on weeknights when you are a working parent.
It’s also tough to find time to spend with friends, especially when night time is typically the time that adults get together.
One way that I try to keep in touch with friends is to plan an occasional lunch together during the work week.
I’m fortunate that I have a job where I can get away for a bit during lunch, but, even then, I do have to stay close by, and, prefer to walk to my destination since I have to park so far away from the office.
It also helps to go to lunch either very early, or, very late so that your time together isn’t used up trying to find a parking space, or, waiting for a table.
I try to get together with my friends who work outside the home, as well as those who may be at home for whatever reason.
Occasionally, someone home with children might enjoy the outing either by having a babysitter, or, bringing the kids along, it usually works out OK.
Other people who work outside the home may appreciate the opportunity to get together without the stress of making sure everything is taken care of at home first, like they might have to do if they were going out for the evening.
Sure, lunch can be hurried sometimes when you have to get back to the office, but, with a little planning it can be just the thing to keep in touch with friends when you work.
I totally agree. I have two-three groups of close friends that I would see no more than once a year if we didn’t meet up for lunch every month or two.
Lunchtime is about my favorite friend-meeting time at all. Since I’m a single mom, meeting anytime outside of day care hours means hiring a babysitter or bringing the kiddos.
I can often swing one or the other, but good grief. Sometimes I enjoy just sitting down and hanging out with my friends, and taking a short break from my on-duty life.
