Weekend Around the Channel…again ;)

We now have a daughter in dance and a son in soccer (and another who would love to be joining his bro in soccer)….oh…and a dad still in soccer, too. And me? Ach….just a bunch of bonbons and that, ya know?
Anyway, it just means that I have less time than ever to catch up on my post readings. Here’s what I’m finding tonight that’s reminding me why I love reading those crazy weblogs. I dunno, could be just a passing fad….what do you think?
Marriage Diva mentioned a bakery local to us, and I had to try it out this weekend. Yum. Not only tasty, but it’s tickling my desire to do some creative baking and decorating. Just in time to take a look at this recipe from Marye’s Baking Delights. I’m not usually a white cake kinda girl, but this might just be worth a go. Orange curd? Oh wow. I think Bald Man would appreciate something besides chocolate around here!

The last time we were in D.C., I remember thinking how odd and unsolitary (is that a word?) the White House is. Right there in the smack middle of the city. Odd, I thought. But cool to think of Christine and her K of E living right down the street. How amazing would that be? “Hey Laura, can George come out to play?”
I’ve seen people make candied flowers (like on Martha and such), but have never gotten the nerve up to try them myself. Linette at Mother Earth’s Garden has posted a method for making candied violets. I don’t have any violets, but I do have periwinkle growing on the side of the house. Anyone know if that’s edible?
And then there’s the post that reminds me, no matter how far I’ve come in the last year, I am still so very not tech savvy. You know, like when someone says “notebook” and your first thought is the spiral bound kind. Yep, that’s me.
But check this out at Unplugged Living. Looks pretty cool (unlike me, now that I’ve admitted the spiral thing. nevermind.).
Hope you’re having a fantastic weekend!!!!

Thanks for the mention! I looked up Periwinkle to see if it’s edible. It has a caution that eating large quantities is poisonous. Smaller quantities have medicinal properties. So as long as your not eating a bowlful…;)
Linette: Thanks for looking that up! I’ll have to see if I have some left after the kids were making dandelion and periwinkle bouquets this week.
Kerri, thanks for the pingback! Glad you enjoyed Ele. I, too, know your pain about not having a chocoholic husband.
Hey! Hey! Hey!
I have never complained about chocolate. You’d think Kerri and I were newlyweds in an arranged marriage; she of all people should know that I’m just fine with repetition.
