Weekend blahs

Am I the only one who isn’t excited by weekends anymore? They’re nice enough, but they don’t really feel any different than, say a Wednesday. I don’t work outside the home and freelance work isn’t always a Monday to Friday job, so I usually have work to do on the weekends anyway, and it’s just kind of anticlimatic – sort of “Woo, TGIF! Wait, so what?”

I need weekends to be special again.

I agree. What did you do this weekend Cathy? Laundry. What did you do all week Cathy? Laundry.

  2. I don’t have kids yet, but I always thought that I would try and keep weekends free of laundry and housecleaning so that I would have Saturday to spend with my children who are usually in school, and Sunday to spend with the Lord, family and friends. Reading your post makes me worry! Is this impossible?

But that’s the beauty of not working a 9-5 M-F job, isn’t it? Everyday is special, like weekends used to be. Think about it, isn’t it odd how everyone just accepts that they have to suffer through 5 days that belong to their boss, so they can get to the 2 days a week that belong to them?

Kind of like when we went to school and suffered through 5 boring days so we could play with our friends on weekends?

Now that my family doesn’t do school and I work at home for myself, we’ve realized what a ripoff both of those philosophies are. It’s like you’re always waiting to enjoy life – on the weekend and/or when you graduate. Bizarre.

    Shine On,
    Lill

Well, in our family, my husband works five days a week and my oldest is indeed in school five days a week so we do need to make weekends more prominent for us. It’s just my own schedule that makes it difficult so I need to start fitting more work in during the evenings when my kids are asleep so that I can completely be work-free on Saturday and Sunday to make them special for all four of us.

Chatty Housewife – Not impossible, it will just require some creative shuffling and juggling for me with my various jobs and overlapping deadlines. I’m an expert at mostly ignoring laundry on weekends though, except that i do have to wash my daughter’s school uniforms that day, but it doesn’t take very long so it’s okay, and if I can do it on Friday night, I won’t have to do any on the weekend!
