DNA also works as a hereditary unit through the replication and transmission of genetic information from one generation to the next. Furthermore, during the course of development, DNA sets the limits of our individual potential, with the environment determining the outcome that is actually realized. Thus, DNA not only determines our history, but also our beginnings as individuals.
