Weight gain and the female body

My tests came back a-okay — no hypothyroidism.  Yippo.

However, that means I have to consider that maybe I’ve gained weight for no other reason than the fact that I’m 36.  Could it be that I’m to simply keep putting on pounds as I get older?  Is that just the nature of being a woman?  Have any of you dealt with this?

I have to make sure I don’t starve myself ever again, of course.  But it’s crossed my mind a number of times the past few weeks that it was so much easier not to eat than to obsess over my putting on weight for no reason.

Sigh.  This is so petty.

I’m ashamed, really I am.

There are far more important concerns in the world.  But those of you with (or perhaps without) eating disorders will probably understand at least some of my depression over what amounts to a silly number on a scale.

Wow, thanks for posting this. I decided today to call my doctor to test my thyroid. Were your results still on the low side of what is considered normal? A lot of what I’ve been reading says that you may still need to address thyroid issues even if conventional tests claim its “normal.” It could be much lower than it was 5 years ago, and you would notice a difference from that.

I’m not sure how to come to terms with it myself. I can’t seem to accept any amount of pounds coming back on!! Anyway, I’m right there with you…

    DG:

I don’t know the exact number — I was so happy to hear I was “normal” I didn’t check. Dang it! Wish I had now, because you bring up a good point.
