That welcome mat lurking around your door does more than greet guests. It harbors uninvited troublemakers. According to a msnbc/Prevention article on 10 worst germ hot spots, your welcome mat is a big germ host.
According to the article (which germ phobics should avoid), 96% of shoe soles have traces of coliform, including fecal bacteria. Once bacteria establish themselves in your mat, you can spread them throughout your home each time you walk on it.
Recommended fix from msnbc: spray the doormat weekly with a disinfectant like Lysol and leave shoes at the door. Also, don’t sit grocery bags on your mat.
How often do you clean your welcome mat?
