Welcome to A Hearty Life

Hi and welcome! My name is Hsien-Hsien (shen-shen) Lei and I’m pleased to bring you A Hearty Life, a health blog focusing on all things involving the physiological heart. (Sorry, I probably won’t post much about our emotional heart. I’ll leave that to my esteemed colleague, Dr. Deborah Serani.)

I’m an epidemiologist with special training in cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and kidney disease. From 1994-1996, I was a Johns Hopkins National Institutes of Health cardiovascular disease epidemiology predoctoral trainee. In 1998, I graduated with a PhD from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Here at A Hearty Life, I’ll be bringing you the latest news and information about your heart and overall cardiovascular system with the goal of maintaining and achieving good health. A strong pump and smooth running pipes go a long way (just take a look at the semi-clogged drain in my shower stall for an example).
