Welcome to Eating Fabulous!

Ah, the first post is always the hardest to write. But I’ve lots of foodie goodies to share with you so let me just rattle this one away, ok…

What is this blog gonna be about?

The star of the show are foods that does more than simply fill in an empty stomach. More than satisfying nutritional requirements, functional foods and nutraceuticals provide specific health benefits. We’ll be talking about why and how tomatoes help in reducing heart disease and some cancers. Or how probiotic yoghurt helps keep disease-causing bacteria in the gut in check. Or, hey, did you know that apple cider vinegar can help lower blood sugar? Such are the stuff this blog will be made of: Fabulous foods!

Consider this blog as a revelation of how fabulous some food are. Food that might already be in your fridge or an arm’s reach away at the grocer’s. Food that’s good for your health.

I know that for some, “healthy eating” is equated with boring, tasteless, utterly unappetizing plant-based diet. But stick around, and you’ll be surprised how sumptuous and flavorful healthy eating can be. You might even discover a justification for that bar of chocolate you keep in your drawer ;)

Yes, healthy eating can for sure be tasty and fabulous. There are lots of great items out there that few people know about (tofu/veggie bacon/veggie turkey) that when cooked well are yummy and good for you. Mixed with fruit and veggies in your diet and you’ll have more energy too. Nutritious eating can be fun! Be creative.

  1. [...] A few days after laboring over my very first post, and I encounter this article about superfoods. It’s oldish, written a year ago, but still captures the concept of what functional foods are: foods that are valued not as much for their calorie or nutrient content, but for the amount of health-beneficial compounds they bear. [...]

  2. [...] Hey, a newish Food Science related blog is Eating Fabulous. From her first post in July: The star of the show are foods that does more than simply fill in an empty stomach. 3. [...] It’s been barely three months since my first post, welcoming you all and introducing you the fabulous world of functional foods. I’ve had a lot of fun learning and writing about the medicinal powers of food. Isn’t it so fascinating to see how something so “trivial”, something so day-to-day, can prevent us from contracting so many health disorders? Eating is not just about satisfying hunger. Foods also have the power to heal. As Hippocrates said, “Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food “ [...]

  4. [...] This blog is just half a year old, with my first post up in July 2006, after which I immediately tried to assuage chocoholics’ guilt. [...]
