This time, it’s not the bird flu killing birds.
The West Nile virus was found in a dead bird in Vista, San Diego county. The sharp-shinned hawk was found Feb. 2, and the positive result was returned on Tuesday, according to the county Vector Control Department.
Last year, two humans and nineteen birds around San Diego tested positive for the mosquito-borne virus. So far, this is the first indication that the virus is present in either human or bird.
