What Breed Is That?

I had never actually heard of this breed before doing a little bit of research for this week’s What Is It!

This rare working breed can be either hairless or coated (with hairless being dominant) and usually weigh between 12 and 45 pounds. They were considered sacred and revered by the ancient Aztecs who believed the dogs helped guide individuals through the underworld after their death.

Do you know what it is?

[update: here's the answer!]

I know this one!!!!!! I have a friend that raises them. I can’t remember their other name but African Hairless is what we’ve told people. I think there are 6 now here in town. They are soooo much fun.

    YEP! LOL
I am owned by a few of those furless kids.
I ADORE them! :o ) My furless kids with mohawks!

    “American Sand Terriers”.

YES, they are more than intuitive about people. Know when I am not feeling well, etc.
Hunters….fierce. Loves. LOVE to be loved. Adore wearing clothing too.

I am blessed to own them!

PS. I won’t tell what breed(s) were used in making this hairless and coated dog. :0) My Mother began this journey with these dogs. I now have them…what is left anyway. VERY few are around. Adoption? Yes, I occasionally do adopt to new good approved homes, but RARELY have litters. Adoption contracts are stiff coming from me. I have deemed this breed to be protected. I can not tell you how they have more than a normal Dog’s intuition. It is unexplainable until you are with one as YOUR companion. They are fearless. They are sensitive to their human companion. They are the most sensitive breed I have ever encountered in all my years around different breeds of dogs.

I have many photos of my coated and hairless kids. Each different. Each extremely special. Each a treasure I can not describe.

If you have true interest in knowing one of these dogs, I suggest you attempt to have contact with one. I believe you will be amazed just as I am.

This, for the love of all animals great and small…..

    Kerri
