What Do Tom Brady and Peyton Manning Have to Do With Women’s Health?

What Do Tom Brady and Peyton Manning Have to Do With Women's Health?Aside from getting our heart rates up, that is…

There’s something about an attractive, charismatic player that gets non-football fans interested in football. For me, it happened with Tom Brady after he appeared on The Simpsons and Family Guy. Now, when my husband sits down to watch the New England Patriots play, I join him, because I have a personal interest in the quarterback.

The same thing happened after I saw Peyton Manning host Saturday Night Live. (And yes, I know Tom Brady hosted, too, but I didn’t see that one.) I enjoy watching the Colts play now because Peyton Manning is a real person to me, not just some guy in a helmet and shiny pants. And now that I’ve seen a couple of commercials with him and his brother Eli, I like watching the Giants, play, too.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not planning to play professional football myself or anything (though that would make for a very interesting blog post), but developing a personal interest in a professional athlete has made me more aware of sports, and it’s piqued my interest in maybe participating in community sporting events.

And that’s where the health connection comes in. Anything that encourages you to be active, to think about ways you could improve your health (and possibly attract an NFL quarterback in the process), is a good thing.

Will I be watching the Superbowl tomorrow? You betcha. And not just for the commercials, though I hope they’ll be fun. I’ll be watching because, for the first time in my life, I actually care what happens. I want to see what Tom Brady and Eli Manning do, and I want to know what people are talking about on Monday. Will I be rooting for the Patriots or the Giants? I haven’t decided yet. But either way, it’s going to be fun.

Are you planning to watch the Superbowl? Who’s your favorite player? Leave a comment!

I too gained in interest in Brady from another source outside of a football field. It happened when driving down the highway and I was in traffic starring at a Movado billboard of that dimple chin, WOW! I then caught Brady in a repeat on SNL and it was L O V E. I soon was asking my boyfriend if we could watch Monday Night Football (he is a Bears fan) and could not figure out why I was interested, but my glee in seeing Tom on the sidelines soon caught his attention and subsequent anger. Oh Well, I now love Tom Brady and really really enjoy the game of football…….who knew. I am routing for the Patriots in a big way and hope to see lots of Tom Brady in those nice tight football pants :)

What a timely post! Joey Harrington (the Falcons’ QB and a fellow University of Oregon alum) was the “Not My Job” guest on “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” today. I’d never given the guy a second thought until I heard him charm the audience today. Oh, la la! I don’t think I’ll start watching pro football anytime soon, but I don’t complain when my husband watches EPL soccer on the weekends. Now those are some hotties …

Heh heh, I’m going to tell him you said that next time he answers your phone when I call. ;)

  5. I became a Colts fan (and a Peyton fan) after last year’s Super Bowl. The speeches he and Tony Dungy gave after the game were so humble and respectful that I couldn’t help myself :)

I wasn’t as impressed with Eli tonight, but it matters not :) I’m now a Colts fan.

Aw, that’s how I felt about Joe Namath when he appeared on the Brady Bunch.

Alicia, if I were judging either Eli Manning or Tom Brady on their performance last night, I don’t think I would have been too impressed with either of them!

Jul, I think I missed that episode. Note to self: Check YouTube.

I am a HUGE Colts fan and even bigger fan of Peyton Manning. One of the main reasons that I find him so attractive is the fact that he has a wonderful sense of humor and seems so down to earth. To me that’s sexy with a capital S!!!!

Shannon, I couldn’t agree with you more.

  10. I am a Patriots fan from Argentina. Very nice Patriots information.
I am a big fan of Tom Brady and Wes Welker.
I hope to be in Boston for a game this fall.
