What Do You Think of TWILIGHT…the Book and/or the Movie?

I’ve heard mixed reports about Twilight, the movie made from Stephenie Meyer’s best selling vampire book. No, I haven’t seen the movie…and I haven’t read the book, or any of her books.
However, I’ve discussed the books with my 17-year old granddaughter, Kara, and one of her friends, Jennie. Kara had no interest in seeing the movie after reading the books. She’s a fan of fantasy and this type of book. However, she said she found the Twilight series books slow reading. There seemed to be a great deal of extraneous material that wasn’t necessary to the story, she thought. So she found herself skipping that and getting to the action. The last book in the series, she didn’t read. She simply found a summary and skimmed that so she’d know the plot. She’s also had no desire to see the movie Twilight.
Jennie, who wasn’t a fan of vampire type books, read the first Stephenie Meyer book and was hooked. She loved it. I don’t know if she’s seen the movie.
It appears people either love the movie and often see it repeatedly. Others find it doesn’t equal the book and don’t care for it.
What do you think of the books? How does the movie compare?

How can you write about a book or movie you haven’t read or seen? Read the books and see them movie then get back to us.
Thanks
Brad, thanks for stopping by One Book Two Book and leaving a comment. Why not let us know what you think of the books and/or movie?
This would be a great place for a discussion. People seem either to love them or find them uninteresting. As I said, in the post, I haven’t read the books nor seen the movie, so I haven’t given a personal opinion about them. But I find it interesting to know what others response is.
I read Twilight and wrote a review here…http://www.onebooktwobook.com/twilight-a-good-lesson-for-teen-girls/
I didn’t think the Twilight series was slow reading – I finished all four novels in 6 days while on vacation over the summer. It was nice to have a bit of a brain vacation.
I also found the fourth book to be the weakest in the series – I skimmed quite a bit.
I’m interested in seeing the movie although I must admit, I’m a bit embarrassed as an almost-30-something in a theater full of teenagers. I don’t doubt the movie will be a horrible portrayal of the book, as most movies targeting this age range tend to be.
All in all, bravo to Stephenie Meyer for creating such an empire. This thing has been marketed to death. I’ve even seen Twilight book ends….
I loved the books & the movies
I’m surprised she doesn’t want see the movie if she thought the book had much un-needed in it. The movie skips so much, it goes much quicker.
I have only read the first book..i read it in two days. Its not even what it was about, its that the writer is fantastic! There are no unnecessary, drawn out descriptions. I took my little sister to see the movie, and I was dissapointed! The scenes I had in my head while reading the book were much better than the movie! Dont get me wrong, the movie was good…….just not as good as the book! BUT they never are!
