What Do Your Children Like to Read?

Share with us what your children like to read.  Ask them why they like those books.  Do they differ from the ones you enjoyed as a youngster and perhaps still like today?

I still like to read books for young readers, especially mysteries for middle readers and teens.  (Mysteries and intrigue novels also are my favorite in the adult category.)  However, I find my grandchildren’s tastes vary greatly from mine as a child and even now.

Fantasy seems to be very much in vogue.  As well as science fiction.

When I asked my 17-year old granddaughter why she liked fantasy, she answered, “Because in fantasy you can make up your own world.  There aren’t limits like the real world.”

Her mom has been a fantasy and science fiction reader since her childhood.  She also read books that I did as a child.  You might say, she is sort of a bridge between my reading world and that of the grandchildren.

Share with us what your children like to read.  What do you like to read, too.

My son, age 9, just discovered Garfield comics, LOL. He loves them. He also loves any books featuring boys. He just finished reading all of the Beverly Cleary Henry Huggins books, as well as the Ralph S. Mouse books. He also likes Magic Treehouse, but they are getting a little easy for him to read.
My daughter (age 7) isn’t a very strong reader yet, but adores to be read to. We just finished reading Nim’s Island and Nim and Sea out loud, and are now starting The Mysterious Benedict Society which both kids are really into already.

We have been listening to the Peter and the Starcatchers books on audio, and are pretty sad that the third one is coming to an end because we have all enjoyed them so much.

Personally, I like to read just about anything!

Melissa, thanks for visiting One Book Two Book and letting us know what your children read and what you read with them. My grandson has thoroughly enjoyed anything Garfield for several years. He’s also into graphic novels.

I’m so pleased you’ve passed your love of reading on to your children, that you read with them and encourage them to read.

Audio books also are great for encouraging readers and make time pass faster when traveling.
