What Is The Fourth Step?

The 12 and 12 tells us on pgs. 42-43.

“Step Four is our vigorous and painstaking effort to discover what these liabilities in each of have been, and are. We want to find exactly how, when, and where our natural desires have warped us. We wish to look squarely at the unhappiness this has caused others and ourselves. By discovering what our emotional deformities are, we can move toward their correction. Without a willing and persistent effort to do this, there can be little sobriety or contentment for us. Without a searching and fearless moral inventory, most of us have found that the faith which really works in daily living is still out of reach.”

I’ve heard it said that if you don’t do a fearless and thorough fourth, you’ll drink a fifth…

I’ve also heard it said that the only wrong way to do a fourth step is to not do it at all…

I was told point blank, in my face, that if I didn’t do a fearless and thorough fourth step I was doomed to drink again. I took them at their word.

When it says list people, institutions or principles with whom you were angry, what specifically (in detailed list) are those principles? I did not understand exactly what it means. Spiritual princples, moral principles, society’s principles, etc. If any knows, please help me. Thanks!
