What Is “The Message?”

Jo made a pertinent comment with which I agree. Yet, she said something I believe has many “interpretations,” unfortunately. What she said was “our only primary purpose is to carry the message to the alcoholic who still suffers.” Well, the first part is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety, but I know Jo meant that.
“Carry The Message”
We know the Twelfth Step says: “We tried to carry this message to alcoholics.” So…
What is The Message?
What do you tell your sponsee when they ask that question?

Well, put me on the spot here, Mark
Don’t have any “sponsees” in the formal sense of the word, nor do I have a “sponsor”. IMONSHO, I think that the meaning of these two words have become perverted inside A.A. today . . .but that’s for another day.
Very short version: The message I attempt to carry is the program as outlined in the Big Book, found in the first 164, as filtered though my experience, strength and hope over the last 18 years.
All right! A beginning… thanks so much Jo!

The message of Alcoholics Anonymous is the same message Ebby carried to Bill: “That God has done for me what I was unable to do for myself.”…His human will had failed…
Had this power originated in him?…There had been no more power in him than there was in me… (Bill’s Story; pg 11:para 3 & 4)
Thanks Tommy!
