What is your definition of a Valentine?

Valentine’s Day will be here in less than a week and a half. Some people aren’t into it, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t into you. Some people have ridiculous expectations for the day - grand gestures, expensive gifts, but it’s not always easy to come up with something “meaningful” in the middle of the work week. Okay, so maybe that excuse doesn’t work this year, as Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday, but still……..

I’m not looking forward to it this year. I’m not dreading it either. This year, it’s just a day.

Last year, I had a boyfriend and he came into town on Valentine’s evening (he was my long distance man). I can remember prettying myself up and smelling like a cookie, for some reason. Whatever. Lets just say I was giddy.

Oh, if I only knew then what lie ahead of me…..okay, I wouldn’t have done anything differently. For once in my life, I know that I was absolutely fair and patient and generous with my love. I don’t regret giving any of it. Loving that man will never be something that I will consider a mistake or a waste of my time.

This year….well, this year I‘m footloose and fancy-free, also known as single and dateless, and for some reason, I smiled as I typed that. Could it be that I like being free from the expectations of another Valentine’s Day?  Yep, that could be it. Or it could be the milk chocolate that I just ate is kicking in.

This year, I’m going to give all 4 of my kids a Valentine. I’m going to make them a batch of brownies and possibly a heart-shaped pizza. I’m going to be happy with what I’ve got, because it’s not always easy to get – a loving happy family.

What are your expectations for the holiday? Do you have any? Do you have plans? Do you have a Valentine?  What is your definition of a Valentine?

to me,valentine’s is justa date and 14 is just a number.I think couples just want one day to dedicate to their love, and thats one of the main reason people celebrate valentines..

    i say..celebrate your love everyday!

Is that what foot loose and fancy free means? Single and dateless…I am there with you in spirit girl. I think your idea is wonderful–I always do something special for my kids. There love is unconditional and you couldn’t ask for anymore than that. Do something special for yourself too. I think we as women sometimes forget to take care of our selves.

Oh, brownies and a heart-shaped pizza sound delicious (and fun!). Can I be one of your kids for V Day? ;-)

For the first time ever in my 28 years, I have a date on V Day, but I’m still hoping to keep it low-key. Dinner at my place, then maybe a movie out or in. Or perhaps both. I have to admit, Valentine’s Day is a holiday that is way too commercialized for my tastes.

I’ve never quite understood the big deal about Valentine’s day. It’s WAY too much pressure for the most part – pressure to “have a valentine”, pressure to “be a valentine”, pressure to give the right gift or whatever. Too much pressure!!
When I was a kid, I do remember my dad always came home with flowers or something nice for mom and candy for us girls. He couldn’t do much, but we all knew he did what he did out of the love he has for us. Now, my husband and I wake up and say, “Happy Valentine’s Day”, but don’t make a big thing out of it…our wedding anniversary is 4 days later and much more important to both of us.
Your plans for this year sound GREAT! It’s so much better to “be loving” and to do something fun (and yummy)! I hope you all have a Happy Valentine’s Day! xoxo

I am really looking forward to Valentine’s Day this year, because we’ll be down at my sister’s house, so I’ll have a whole house full of Valentine’s to be with.

Heather, I hope that you enjoy your date! Leah, I think you sort of live a lifetime of Valentine’s Days. ;D Jackie, the kids have already seen their Valentines. No privacy in this place anymore.

I hope you all enjoy your every days.
