What Keeps You From Exercising?

Exercise ball workoutThe Center for Disease Control and Prevention says that adults should engage in moderate activity, 30 minutes a day, for at least 5 days of the week. Unfortunately, many of us don’t regularly get that much exercise. There are a variety of reasons, from time constraints (working full time, being a mom, etc) to lack of energy. What I find interesting is that people today seem to resist it when our bodies were made to move and be active.

I’ll admit that I’m not always “motivated” to do my exercise. Sometimes it seems like a huge chore and I really AM tired/busy/whatever. However, I always feel better after I’ve done it, so I try to make myself.

Exercise has some amazing health benefits. It improves cardiovascular fitness, can help prevent heart attacks and various cancers, and it can help you lose weight (although this is being challenged right now). (I know I’ve harped on this before – but it really is important!) So make time for exercise – you may even start to enjoy it.

  1. Hi Claire, I know what you mean, I don’t always want to exercise either, but I always feel better afterwards. As far as the different “reasons” people have for not doing it, it really comes back to making it a priority and fitting it in. You’ve got to make time for yourself, no one else will. ;)

I hate to sweat. If I don’t do it first thing in the morning, I just dread it. And I hate doing it first thing in the morning. Ugh. There has got to be a better way!

  3. Claire says:

JoLynn – totally true, you have to make it a priority!
Christina – lol. I don’t really mind sweating – after I come back from yoga when the heat is on I feel much better. But I get what you mean…sometimes I dread it too (and I never work out first thing like I should!)
