What Part Of Pertinent Is Mis-Understood?

dAAve left us a strong comment about his attempts to raise the Traditions as a topic at an AA meeting and being rebuffed by those who complain that the Traditions are not pertinent to their sobriety.

I feel exactly as dAAve does.

From January 31 in our Daily Reflections “Our Common Welfare Comes First;”

“Our Traditions are key elements in the ego deflation process necessary to achieve and maintain sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous.”

And…

“Deferring my personal desires for the greater good of group growth contributes toward A.A. unity that is central to all recovery.”

So – key elements to achieve and maintain sobriety plus central to all recovery??? What part of pertinent do they not understand???

dAAve, maybe its time to ask them if they’d like to re-write the Big Book. Something like “Alcoholics Anonymous according to whomever.” Ought to be a best seller – not!

  1. My homegroup is small by number but quite large when EGO’s are mixed in. That’s OK for me at this point in my sober life. It provides endless leesons in acceptance for me while giving me the spiritual connection to begin each day.

I can’t count the number of times I thought the Big Book was outdated. But after 10 years of recovery, I understand that it is still pertinent. I am grateful for the Big Book, the 12 Steps and the Twelve Traditions.

    There was a time when I couldn’t get enough 7&7. Now I can’t get enough of the 12 & 12.
