What’s in a Name?
New Zealand authorities have blocked a couple’s bid to officially name their new son “4real,” saying numerals are not allowed.
I suppose having grown up with a name that kids completely tortured, I can understand how important the task of choosing just the right name for a child can be.
When I was pregnant with my twins, I put a great deal of time and effort into choosing the proper names.
TWO MUST’s To Consider When Choosing a Baby Name:
- Check initials to make sure they didn’t spell anything funky.
- Rhyme the names with everything imaginable to see what nicknames can potentially be dreamed up by classmates.
Can you imagine naming your child 4real? Why would a parent ever want to do that to their child?
It’s not like they’re Gweneth Paltrow and daughter Apple.
Perhaps it’s because I’ve been there with a name that was so abused that I’m drawn to names period. However, over time some of the funkiest names I’ve heard or seen are:
Shanda Lear
Wrangler Gene & Levi Garrett (twins)
Robert Roberts
Candi Lane
A boy I grew up with had the last name Dick. His first and middle initials were H and E. That’s HED!
NOT good people!
Although there’s nothing unusual about these names, I find it interesting that my mother grew up with a girl with the last name Grey. Grey married a man last name Black. Their daughter grew up to marry a man with the last name Brown.
Funny!
