What’s in a name? -or- Rename that body!

Yesterday, I found myself “feeling” the back of my thighs and bottom. Know what I was looking for? Not just fat–a particular kind of fat: cellulite. Yep, those bumpies that make a woman’s derriere look more like an orange rind.
Unfortunately, I have it. I’m petite, but it’s there. It always upsets me, even though I know it’s petty to be upset by it. I mean, a friend just lost twin baby girls at around 21-22 weeks in utero; my son’s almost-five-year-old cousin has cancer; and people are facing economic woes left and right.
And I’m focused on cellulite.
Anyway, I got to thinking… what if the problem is what we CALL those fatty cells? I mean, cellulite is pretty doggone normal… so when did it become taboo? (Personally, I think it was sometime in the late 70s or early 80s with all those freakin’ Jane Fonda aerobics videos.)
My proposal is simple. Let’s just call cellulite something else. That way, we can focus on what really matters and not whether we look like we’re smuggling a bag of cottage cheese under our jeans.
I vote for DIMPLES.
Hey, why not? Who doesn’t love dimples?
Dimples are cute, dimples are sweet, dimples are charming, dimples are adorable! You can pinch them, you can kiss them, you can love them!
Who’s with me? Maybe if we systematically rename all those parts we hate, we’ll start loving our bodies and put an end to this poor body image that controls our lives.

LOL I’m right there with you, Angelique!
