This from NASCAR.com – ‘NASCAR driver Michael Waltrip has partnered with The Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation to launch the “Waltrip Challenge“, a nationwide fundraising competition for Alzheimer’s disease research.’

The Waltrip Challenge offers fans the opportunity to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and also raise money for Alzheimer’s research.

Fans can register for the challenge at www.waltripchallenge.com. When registering, they create their own website for fundraising. From there, they can encourage family and friends to donate to the challenge.

So far, over $9800 have been raised.

The fan who raises the most money will win a ‘day at the races’ – an all-expense trip for two to Daytona 500 in 2008 where they will meet Michael Waltrip.

There is also an online instant win game for fans with an opportunity to win not only instant prizes, but also go into a draw for a chance to win an all-expense paid trip for two for the Best Western Race Day Experience in Phoenix, Arizona on 11th November, 2007.

The challenge ends on Nov 1, 2007.

Hey, thanks for using my NASCAR photo on this post. It’s really a great thing to see it used to contribute to such a great cause, especially one near and dear to me like Alzheimer’s disease, which has had a pretty profound effect on my family.

(Coincidentally, the first NASCAR race I ever attended was as a result of winning tickets at a silent auction benefitting the Alzheimer’s Association! Go figure!)

Anyway, thanks again! Keep up the great work on this blog. It’s a wonderful thing.

    Hi Bo,
thanks for having your photo up on flickr for use – closer I’ve ever gotten to a NASCAR race is the tv.

I love that you had a positive connection with alzheimer’s through winning tickets at a silent auction… obviously your photo was destined to be used on the Alzheimer’s Notes site…

Alzheimer’s Disease is something that affects all of us, either through family or friends and getting the word out is so important… it’s great to see people like Michael Waltrap who have a following and a voice and obviously a desire to help get out and try to do something positive.

Thanks much for stopping by and letting us know that story.

  3. Thanks, Bo, for stopping by and sharing your story with us. Also, as Liz says, thanks for having your photo on flickr that she could use.

Isn’t it interesting how connections occur.
