When furniture takes over a room!

As we renovate and come closer to the completion of our projects we start to think about all the new furniture we want to have in our nice new rooms, but when does the fear of having to much furniture set in.
Lets talk about the average living room which normally has in it, a TV and stand, couch, love seat, recliners, coffee tables and end tables, lamps, book shelves, I could keep going on and on about stuff I have seen crammed into different livings rooms I have been in but I am sure you get the point I am trying to make.
As renovators and designers of most of our home projects one thing we forget to plan for is floor space. If you have a 4000 square foot home then the chances are your not going to have this problem, but if you have a 1200 square foot home then you need to start thinking of the space you want to show off and live in rather then filling it full of furniture. Having enough room for 10 people to sit down on a regular basis is silly when you think about it. Would it not be better to have comfortable space for 6 people to sit down and have the ability to increase that number with stack-able chairs when and if the times comes you need it.
So many people pack a lot of furniture into a room just in case company comes over, and this mentality makes our own living space that we use everyday not what it should be. Not only do we need places to sit and relax, but we need room to walk around and do what ever it is we want.
Funny thing is, if you start thinking of what kind of space you want to have instead of what you can put in it, you will have more room to live in and enjoy the renovation you just completed.
