When Is ‘Hug Your Cat’ Day, Anyway?

An amused DJ on the radio just now announced that today is ‘Hug Your Cat Day.’ But wait a second, I though that happened a couple of weeks ago already?
Awwww!
Apparently, there is no set-in-stone Hug Your Cat date! From what I’ve found online, it varies widely from May 15th, to today, and even to June 4. I have to admit, now I’m amused!
I will gladly say that I try to hug all our pets as often as I can. This is easiest with Turbo and the two dogs because the three of them are very affectionate, but it doesn’t always work out so well with Kricket and Sage, who prefer to keep to themselves. If I can get a head scratch in with them I consider it a good day. (And no, I don’t try to hug the fish!)
I can’t find out officially how or by whom this “holiday” was created, much less get a solid answer as to when the day should be celebrated! I do know one thing, though, and that is that we don’t need an excuse for cute cuddling cat pictures, right?

Hi Heather and Peggy — I am the founder of Hug Your Cat Day and apologies for the confusion. Yes, it is a floating holiday yet always in late May and early June, actually the first Friday of Book Expo America (this is a convention for the publishing industry).
