When packing was simple

I remember when I used to go camping or just away for the weekend, I could pack everything I needed in one duffel bag. That included my clothes and books, notepad and pens, and little etceteras. Other than that, there was a cooler for food and the tent and sleeping bags. Easy and straightforward.

Going away to a rustic cottage for almost four days with two young kids is a whole lot of organizing. I feel like I should have one of those wedding planner types here to guide me a little. I have one small suitcase with all the clothes the kids need, plus a pack of diapers for the little one. I have my clothes and essentials in one duffel bag, my husband is taking another. On top of that we have a whack of food to stuff in the cooler and tote bag, a large tote with extra shoes and towels for the beach, my camera stuff (including a tripod), and my husband is also bringing a guitar and mini-amp because we’re going with friends and they’re going to jam by the fire at night.
Plus the tent, the sleeping bags, and possibly some lawn chairs if we can fit them. If there’s not enough room, we’re all sitting on the ground and tough for anyone who doesn’t like it!
I’m looking forward to it. There’s electricity and indoor plumbing, but we have to bring our own drinking water and we have the choice as to whether we sleep in the tent or the cottage. We’re going to be cooking everything over a fire pit and I’m giddy at the thought of teaching my daughters the joys of making s’mores and roasting a hot dog on a stick.
Let’s hope I want to come back!

hehe yep we basically need a moving truck when we go out anywhere. Sometimes it makes me not want to visit others. I do want to go camping this summer just not sure if I will.
The good old days of packing light! We’re going camping next month for three days – it takes twice as long just to plan for it! Have fun!
