When Youngsters Are Satisfied With Books for Christmas

Love to Read

For a number of years, my grandaughter, now 17, has been satisfied with books as Christmas gifts.  She loves to read and always has a fun book going along with her school work.

When she was in eighth grade, the reading teacher, realizing Kara was devouring books, in addition to the required ones, asked her to keep a list.  By the end of the school year, Kara had read 96 books, many of these very lengthy ones.

About a month before Christmas, she makes out a list for us of books she’d like to read, especially books in series she’s collecting.  If she isn’t quite sure of what she wants, I give her a gift certificate to an online store.

Her aunt always gives her a gift certificate to a bookstore.  Then when they both have a free Saturday, they make it a day’s outing to the nearby city for lunch, book shopping, and clothes shopping.  This has become a tradition for them, initiated by their love of books.

My daughter has been adding some quilting and fabric art books to her Christmas list.

I also have a Holiday book list suggestion if you’re looking for some books for your children or ones of your childhood.

Are books on your Christmas list?

I do hope that my son will inherit my husband and I’s love of books. He’s 2 and not quite old enough to read yet, but we’ve been loading up his shelves with books from the start. This year, he is working on his alphabet and numbers and already has started to recognize words in their whole form outside of the tutorial books.

My kids always get books for Christmas. They aren’t the readers that my husband and I are, but we’re working on it. :)
