Where to Learn More About Genetics
Reader Priya asked yesterday for some site recommendations to learn more about genetics; both in terms of basic genetics and to pique her interest. Here are some genetics websites that I think are informative and thought-provoking. For other genetics blogs, check out my long blogroll at the bottom of the right sidebar. If you have any others to recommend, please share with us in the comments!
- Learn.Genetics from the Genetics Science Learning Center at The University of Utah – “Helping people understand how genetics affects their lives and society.”
- DNA From The Beginning – An animated primer on the basics of DNA, genes, and heredity.
- Genetics Home Reference – Your Guide to Understanding Genetic Conditions
- OLogy: The Gene Scene from the American Museum of Natural History
- Understanding Genetics: Human Health and the Genome at The Tech Museum in San Jose, California
- Genetics and Heredity – A free collection of articles about genetics and heredity published in The New York Times
- Basic Principles of Genetics: An Introduction to Mendelian Genetics from Palomar College
- Kids Genetics @ GlaxoSmithKline
- Council for Responsible Genetics – Advancing the public interest in biotechnology since 1983
- DMOZ Open Directory Project – Science: Biology: Genetics
Thanks for the giving me the nudge to do this, Priya. There are some sites here that I need to explore too!

priya: My pleasure! Come back and tell us what you found most interesting.
professor, it was great going through these sites
we students find very less sites for us.
all we can find is some hi-fi sites updating on latest research which we never follow.
good u gave me some basic sites to know the basics than just reading them frm books its nice to read through animations!!!!!!!
priya: I’m so happy to hear that!
Come visit Genetics and Health regularly too. I try not to talk in gobbledy gook all the time.
Thank you very much for these!
Yvette: Some of the sites are pretty cool, aren’t they?
