Where To Recycle Old Fluorescent Bulbs

If you live in Utah or near the area, you may want to read this entry to the very end. You see, I have read some news about officials from the Salt Lake County – they are planning on creating recycling spots for your old fluorescent bulbs.

Here is the list of areas where you can drop your old fluorescent lights for recycling:

  • Bingham Creek, 4834 W. 9000 South, West Jordan.
  • Calvin Smith, 810 E. 3300 South, Millcreek.
  • Whitmore, 2197 E. Fort Union Blvd. (about 7000 South), Cottonwood Heights.
  • Draper, 1136 E. Pioneer Road (12400 South), Draper.
  • Hunter, 4740 W. 4100 South, West Valley City.
  • Magna, 8339 W. 3500 South, Magna.
  • South Jordan, 10673 S. Redwood Road (1700 West), South Jordan.
  • R.V. Tyler, 8041 Wood St. (55 West), Midvale.

Why should we recycle old bulbs like fluorescents? According to experts, these light bulbs actually hold a certain amount of mercury. The amounts may be small enough but if you just toss the bulbs in a garbage dump, the mercury could actually be absorbed by the soil and it could then travel to our water. And if this does happen, our water would get polluted.

So it is important that you do your share. Recycle your old fluorescent bulbs.
