White Rabbit Creamy Candy Brand Recalled for Melamine

I had warned about this and now the news is out.  That is if you can find it buried on an on-line news site.

White Rabbit Creamy Candy Brand has been recalled in the United States as well as 50 other countries.  Initial testing showed that there were traces of melamine in the candy.

Sadly, due to the endless news coverage of the bail-out bill and the vice presidential debate there was no mention of this recall even on the evening news.  The story continues to grow and sadly there is little news of it here in the United States. 

In China, there are now baby zoo animals that have become ill with kidney stones due to tainted formula, more candy discovered and the list goes on.  Parents are now seeking out defense attorneys preparing to sue.  This is unheard of in China.  The government keeps a pretty tight reign on things.  This summer after the horrific earthquakes parent were questioning the safety of the government built schools that so many of their children died in.  It was reported that a janitor from one of the schools believed that the collapses were due to poor construction and was trying to build a case with pictures.  He ended up in jail.  The Chinese government then put guards around the schools, quickly cleared most of the debris, placed brick walls around the sites and refused to let anyone in.  They then required parents to sign releases stating that they did not blame the government.  So, the story that parents are preparing to sue, is huge.

This is the norm in China.  This food scandal has just hit so many Chinese citizens that it can not be covered up and even though the government is attempting to do so, parents are mad.

Again, don’t count on the recalls and make sure to check your Halloween Candy.
