Make Art Monday!

Sometimes I get into a rut of using the same collage formats over and over, so my goal for the next few months is to break out of the “series” mentality that I’ve gotten into, and see if I can find some new styles that suit me. I’m aiming for simple and balanced, but not so much symmetrical.
Remember I shared a couple of weeks ago about a website with lots of layout ideas? Well, I didn’t appropriate this design from that site, but I definitely am going to have to go back and revisit it! Anyone else have any tips to share for breaking out of a design rut?

I love the colors in this and the softness of it.
Thank you so much, Hummie!
The usual response to getting out of an artistic rut is to use a new color. How about a new texture instead? Or doing a 3D collage? If you like toned colors go for pure hues or pastels. You’ve probably heard these all before; it’s really hard to leave a comfort zone. Tell you what, if you really want to try something simple, go get a styrofoam cone and make a collaged Christmas tree adding some sort of 3D item to it. Just a suggestion that isn’t totally vague. Hope it gives your mind a little jog. : )
