Why Cats Groom

Most healthy cats groom like they have an OCD. But isn’t it nice that kitties can keep themselves clean? (Some breed and coat types need help, of course.) Scientist refer to cat grooming as autogrooming when no other cats are involved.

And autogrooming has several functions besides just to keep kitty clean!

Grooming also

•Improves a cat’s unique odor for communication purposes

•Keeps kitty cool in hot weather as the saliva evaporates

•Enhances the fur’s insulating abilities during cold weather

•Stimulates the production of water-repellent oils that protect from rain
