Why Fight It?

One of the things I love most about my meditation practice is not only how much more in tune I am with positive energy, but also how much more aware I am of the stressors and negative energy that can permeate everyday life.

Rather than becoming frustrated with these emotions, I am learning to relax with and learn from them.  My evening meditation is the best time for me to tackle these issues.  I sit quietly for a while and just let myself move through the emotions.  Once I encounter a growing sense of frustration, for example, I stop myself.  I ask myself what I am feeling.  I define it.  And I think about my reactions to these feelings, and that’s often when I find solutions.

When I find a pattern of several days of similar feelings, I know that I have a real issue in my life that requires a concrete solution in order to resolve these emotions and move on.  Sometimes the emotions arise from unexpected, random situations.  But I find even these have the same root cause.  For example, my work.  There is a growing sense of frustration there, a definite sense of unfulfillment and unease.  I think everyone is going through that a bit these days–increased work loads, thinning staffs, and a lot more pressure to perform and succeed.  Some of it is the seconomy, and it does wear on you.  But identifying it, and knowing what it is helps me to reduce my desire to resist it and fight it–which can often just wear me out and make me feel unhappy.  Instead, I am learning from it and not spending my time and energy fighting it off.

The better solution–to embrace it, understand where it comes from and work with it.  That’s the best way–I am learning–to grow and move beyond the stress and anxiety that comes with it.

Use your meditation and your yoga practice to confront these emotions and learn from them.  It’s really helping me.  I know it will do the same for you.

Peace.

This is a good point; it’s best to work with our issues and figure out a way to solve them from there than to ignore or hide from them. Meditation is great for recognizing what the real issue is.
