Why I’m Awake At 3 AM Instead Of in the Bed Snoozing

556983_gummy_worms I’m truthfully embarrassed to even admit this in public. But that’s precisely why I’m doing so. I promised myself when I agreed to blog here that I would be truthful and honest and real, no matter how ugly it might get, or how embarrassing it might be for me.

So here’s the deal…

I’m not doing very good right now. I’ve been having terrible late-night snack attacks. Instead of doing something to divert my attention, I’ve been giving into my cravings. Not good.

Last night I had really good intentions. But you know what they say about good intentions. I had my bag of popcorn, and then some.

I ended up making half a pot of coffee around 6-ish. While I drank that, I ate two homemade sourdough rolls. About thirty minutes later I popped the popcorn. Just before 10 PM I made six peanut butter cracker sandwiches and ate those with a humongous glass of milk.

The milk’s what done me in. So now I’m awake and not sleeping because I have a horrible stomach ache. To top it off, I stepped on the scale (more or less to punish myself) and the numbers I saw were not good.

When will I ever learn???

I don’t want you to think I’m whining (although I guess I am). But like I said, I promised myself I’d be real here. I could write all sorts of inspirational posts every day for you to read. But you know as well as I do that losing weight is hard, at best. It’s nowhere near being easy. And I want you to understand that I struggle just as much as you do (maybe more).

    Hope, don’t beat yourself up about this. We’ve all done it. As they say, “This too shall pass.” It’s just a day (or night!)

    If I crave anything, it’s GUMMY CANDY! :) Bears, worms, sourpatch kids, licorice… mmmm. That’s me. I’m definitely the “sweet tooth” you mention in your other post!

  2. I know, Angelique. But it’s so doggoned frustrating and I get really mad at myself because I know when I’m doing it that I’ll regret it later, but that rarely stops me. It’s truly a mental thing for me. I’m such an emotional eater, it isn’t even funny.

  3. It always boils down to willpower. The less you give in to the cravings the less you will have over time.

    I think your first mistake is leaving stuff you will nighttime snack on in the house. I would get rid of all that stuff, so when you have cravings there is nothing for you to eat. Unless it is fruit, or vegetables.

  4. You’re right….if I hadn’t had junk food in the house I might not have slipped. That’s why I didn’t buy any more chips. I feel bad that my family has to suffer just because I can’t seem to control myself, though. I do keep fresh fruit in the house, but for some reason grabbing the bag of chips always seems quicker and better (tasting). I’m working on it! :)

  5. People appreciate honesty. I don’t think of situations as embarrassing anymore; I think of them as raw. These situations we find ourselves in, these stories we share – they’re not embarrassing. They’re honest looks at our nature. They’re raw, organic unabridged accounts of our lives. How we think, how we act, the lessons we learn. I applaud you for being honest.
