Why is blood type important at birth?

You may have heard of the rhesus factor. That is the negative or positive part of your blood type. For example, I have blood type O, but I am negative for the rhesus factor, so I am O negative. My husband is also blood type O, but he is positive for the rhesus factor, so he is O positive.

There are 4 types of blood: A, B, AB, and O. Among those blood types, you can be negative or positive.
