Winter Blahs

I don’t know about you, but I am convinced my kids all have a case of the Winter Blahs right now. Everyone seems very unmotivated, unexcited, and under the weather. We are all battling minor colds, coughs, and general malaise – not enough to miss school over, but certainly enough to make the kids feel less than spectacular.
Instead of coming home and racing outside to play or to their playroom to play games, they all seem to be walking in circles, complaining of boredom, or asking for snacks. They are more than willing to plop down on the couch and while away the time in front of the TV if they think they can get away with it.
The weather in these parts isn’t helping much. Plenty of “threats” of snow, but never enough to call it a snow day. I am convinced that one or two good snow days would cure them all!
So, what are your strategies for dealing with the winter blahs? I could use some good ideas right about now!

We live in Florida, so “Winter” is kind of a myth around here (LOL), but maybe you guys could do some fun indoor activities like bowling or roller skating? Or have a movie or game night?
My kids have only had one day of school so far this week. Monday was a holiday. Tuesday there was more than 6 inches of snow. And today the wind chill was around -33 so the buses wouldn’t start. They are keeping busy with the Wii and Xbox, TV, computer, crafts, bored games and reading. Oh and harassing me while I’m working with an “I’m booorrrred.” I think they are starting to get a little cabin fever. They can’t even go out to play in the new snow because it’s too darn cold out. I love snow, but I’m ready for Spring now.
Anything under 60 degrees is cold to me. I’ve got the winter blahs, myself! My solution is to force the regular routine and get some fresh air whether I feel like it or not. Thankfully I have a persistent friend that likes to take walks no matter what the weather so I often join her.
Ooh, is that truly what it looks like outside your door? Brrr. How about a trip to California? Almost as good as the real thing, how about a virtual trip or an indoor camping trip? Some of my fondest moments were curling up with the family under a makeshift tent in the family room as we shared stories about what it would be like camping out by the beach or in the redwoods. Let your imagination run wild.
No, that is not my picture. Today is actually sunny, but cold. Here is a picture outside my door from last week:

Hurry up spring!
