Women and “Bad Boys”: What Is The Attraction?

While reading this article on Bad Boys by Toni Coleman, I found myself reflecting back on my own days of being drawn to Bad Boys.  When reflecting back, I know I was there, I know I dated them and I know they were truly a thorn in my side, but it never stopped me from being drawn to them like a bee to honey.

Why?

Honestly I have no idea!

Toni points out the following:

The following are actual statements from women who have a history of attraction to these guys. See if any of these sound familiar.

• “It’s never BORING with him. He’s unpredictable and exciting.”
• “He’s strong, aggressive and self-assured; I feel safe with him.”
• “It’s not his fault; he’s trying to get his life together.”
• “I haven’t met anyone else that makes me feel the way he does.”
• “He’s so charming and passionate.”
• “He tells me how much he likes me, so he must really feel something for me.”
• “He needs me.”
• “He doesn’t come across as needy and desperate.”
• “I can’t believe I’ve attracted someone like him.”

With each one of those statements, I feel my head shaking in agreement.  It seems so obvious when it’s out there in black and white.

I’m married now, thank goodness, but for the sake of conversation, I’d like to ask your thoughts on the following:

What attracts both men and women to those that seem so unavailable?

How can men and women keep from getting their hearts broken by these bad boys and girls?
