Women who light up may have an increased susceptibility to tobacco carcinogens.

A new study from Swiss researchers shows that women are more vulnerable than men to the cancer-causing effects of smoking tobacco.
The study results were reported this week at the European Multidisciplinary Conference in Thoracic Oncology in Lugano, Switzerland.
The researchers studied 683 lung cancer patients referred to a cancer center between 2000 and 2005.
They found that women tended to be younger when they developed the cancer, even though they smoked on average significantly less than men.
On a more positive note, other research presented at the conference shows that women tend to live longer after lung cancer surgery than men.
