Working From Home
Years ago (1998) I ran a small diaper company, duzins.com. Ironically, even though the diaper company didn’t work out, I couldn’t bring myself to give up the domain. Now I have a coupons/coupon codes site there.
Oddly enough, I didn’t start the business to make money (probably my first mistake LOL). I had wanted to use cloth diapers and I couldn’t afford to buy them, so I made them. Some people online asked about my template and bought some diapers. Then I decided to order the materials wholesale (100 yds of organic french terry; 500 plastic snaps, 500 yards elastic, crates of industrial thread, etc.) and sew them to sell on my site.

Some more pics of our experiment after the jump.

Later we got super-industrious and started having them manufactured. We even got an order from iBaby.com for 5000 diapers. What a rush! Then, the dotcom bubble burst and it all went to naught. I probably could have salvaged the company, but then I got pregnant with baby number 2, and, honestly, I was tired of the grind…
Over the years I have done lots to stay financially productive from home. I’ll be sharing with you in the coming days how I’ve done this. Also, next Friday is WAHM day here at Inside Motherhood. I’ll be sharing with you posts from all over the blogosphere on the topic. The ten moms I’ve chosen to highlight are all super uber-productive so I think they’ll bring a great deal to the discussion.
Until then, I’ll show you a gorgeous jewelry site. If you’ve got a few dollars to drop, there’s a great place!

Thanks so much for the compliments on my jewelry!! I love your blog too! Keep up the great work! ~~ Lynn
Congrats on your persistence Robyn! I am excited because I celebrate my 10th anniversary of working from home this month. I have not sold a product, but have watched my business evolve from a desktop publishing/document support company to a full-up Web design and marketing firm. This summer I evolved my business again, jumping in feet first in the blogging/online marketing arena.
Hats off to all the moms (and dads) who have had the vision, persistence and will to work from home and make it work!
Looks like you had James in on it too.
It’s amazing how much your kids look so much alike.
I know, Ruby looks JUST like that now
Look who’s talking…
I know. I have Twin A and Twin B here, don’t I? I had an old friend tell me I could have had my kids all by myself. I wouldn’t go that far . . . LOL.
