While I'm still trying to get the extracurricular activities schedule under control (somehow I always forget to pack my son's bathing suit for his weekly swim class), the thing that drives me to the point of insanity is when schools schedule performances smack in the middle of the morning so that if I want to go into the office that day, I don't get there until at least 1 pm. Between the pre-school Purim Carnival and the Chinese Folk Dancing performance at my daughter's school, I've been heading into the office so late that I should have just stayed home in the first place.

Really interesting blog by the way...

Do you even understand how lucky you are?! I would love to have the problem of having to drag my 11 year old around to extra activities. But I don’t have that because my son is on the Autistic spectrum. I spend my afternoons dragging my son from Neurologist to therapist to doing at home social therapies. My son would love to be able to shoot a basket but since he had to be taught how to jump with two feet together at 7 by an OT at$100 an hour the chances of that no matter how much he practices is zilch. He still tries though. He was in wrestling for two years with and understanding coach but then we had a coach change. That coach scared off all the bad wrestlers but I played dumb and hung it out. That is till the coach balled me and my son out publicly for something dumb my son did. We are too scared to even try another team since we moved. I bet you never worry about that.
God you are so lucky and you don’t even know it. Yes it’s hard to schedule all this but at least your children have the abilities to do the things they want to do.

I work from home during the day but coach gymnastics two afternoons and one Saturday afternoon, and have three kids. If it weren't for my friends and being able to help each other out, we'd all be hating life.

Afterschool activities are important for kids and with a little creativity we can get it done.

This is a sore subject at our house because we have had to tell the kids they can't do something because we work. My hubby is also a teacher but he is also a coach so he often isn't done until after I am and put that in with the fact that I work almost a 30 min drive away from their school - it is tough.

My schedule (right now) is one that I can usually get them where they need to go but with me getting laid off, I don't know if I will that flexibility in a new company because the flexibility I have now is a direct result of my past performance/history - this is one area where I really struggle because my kids have missed out on things that they really want to do and the logistics just won't work.
