World’s Cheapest Car

Tata Motors in India is selling new cars for around $2,000. They’re called Nano.

Nano seats four and gets 50 miles per gallon! Read the review, Nano: Triumph of Indian Ingenuity, at BBC. The Nano has been in development for six years. Tata Motors wanted to produce a safe, yet ultra-affordable vehicle that’s still very fit for the road.

Not everyone is excited about the Nano. The Nano will replace scooters for many in India and increase the overall number of cars on the road. Some environmentalists worry that it will lead to an increase in carbon emissions. Others worry that more cars on the road will mean higher gas prices.

Tata Motors is considering developing a US-version of the Nano in the next few years. Would you be interested?

I would love one of these for a town car! Especially with a $2k pricetag. We’ve looked at other eeny cars but they are more like $17k and just too expensive to justify.

  3. Hi Jyoti and twoluvcats. I’m interested to see how well these cars sell in Europe as well. They’re supposed to be very well made for the price. Maybe US car makers can come up with something similar.
