Would You Wear This?

Your dog would! Actually, it came from your dog so he wouldn’t have much say in it anyway!

I’ve been a knitter for many years and have come across folks who have tried to turn their pets’ fur into a workable yarn, though very few have had any success and most of them did it just to see if they could.

The book above, Knitting with Dog Hair, seems to be just part of a movement to use fiber from an animal you know versus one you don’t.

In fact, the weblog ‘If It’s Hip, It’s Here,” has an entire photo gallery of people who have used their dogs’ fur as clothing for themselves. They’re all really pretty amazing, but truth be told, even with a lining I think I’d be itching out of my skin.

So, would you wear something made from your dog?

As a spinner I guess that I can say that part of it is the challenge of seeing WHAT you can spin..I have a friend that has spun dryer lint…
Some dogs hair is really nice and makes a great yarn..but if it gets wet it does smell like…yup..dog.
