FINISH THE SENTENCE

SolidTek DigiMemo 692 Digital Notepad with MemoryUse one of these sentences as a prompt.  Finish the sentence you choose.  Then use it for your beginning sentence and write a story,  essay or poem.

  • I heard a creak in the dark hallway outside my bedroom and wondered what…….
  • The long-eared puppy ran toward me, and I could see him…….
  • I remembered that day long ago when…..

This is an exercise I’ve used numerous times with youngsters with good results.  Some young writers can think up stories on their own.  However, many need a prompt to start them off.

It’s also fun to see what you, the teacher or parent, can do with one of these sentences along with the young writers.  You can make up sentences of your own, too, for youngsters to use.
